Among the myriad of options available, deciding which  is the best underwater camera can be tough. Going online to different sites just to get reviews can be both irritating and a waste of time. Canon Powershot D20 – Full Review

This camera is shock proof, water proof and even freeze and dust proof. It is lightweight, stylish, relatively easy-to-use, and takes great pictures. It can be used up to ten meters, or thirty feet, under water, and will resist damage if dropped from up to three feet. It has a DIGIC 4 image processor, and has a video mode as well.  While it did received good reviews,  it was noted that the the Powershot D10 was fairly bulky instead of being sleeker and more stylish. It was also said that it is sticky, has awkward buttons, no floating strap, and will sink if dropped in the water.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3
This is Panasonic’s third try at creating a rugged, underwater camera, and rugged it is. It is water proof up to forty feet, and shock proof up to six and a half feet. It is also freeze proof down to fourteen degrees. Along with its destruct proof features, it offers a built in barometer and GPS, and altimeter, so you always know where you are, how far you are from sea level, and what the air or water pressure is. Reviews for the Lumix TS3 have been pretty good, however there were a few concerns. The camera takes soft pictures, the lens is prone to fingerprints, and the LCD blurs. It is also fairly expensive at anywhere from three hundred and thirty to four hundred dollars.

Pentax Optio WG-1

This one rates about the same as the previous two. Its features are similar, being water, shock, freeze and dust proof as well as able to withstand falls. It does not come with standard GPS, but the add-on is offered. The color quality is great, though there are only two color settings, and the LCD is difficult to use outside. All in all, a pretty well rounded and received camera. The price is a little less expensive than the Panasonic, starting at two hundred and seventy-eight dollars.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10
Sony has been a big name in electronics for a long time. This camera has all the same basic features as the other three. All the necessary ruggedness is available and in good working order. This super slim metal camera offers better low-light pictures with less ‘noise’. It also has a touch screen and a couple of advanced picture options.

The biggest complaints were about the size of its screen and the fact that it is constantly in need of cleaning due to the nature of touch screens. Prices begin at three hundred and twenty-six dollars and some odd change.

Finding the best waterproof camera does not have to be a guessing game. All of the cameras listed are good for use in the water and come with varying features. Though their prices are all about the same, namely fairly expensive, the cameras themselves are probably worth the money. Once the camera has been decided upon, the hardest choice is what color to get.
